On Forensic Use of Biometrics
نویسندگان
چکیده
This chapter discusses the use of biometrics techniques within forensic science. It outlines the historic connections between the subjects and then examines face and ear biometrics as two case studies to demonstrate the application, the challenges and the acceptability of biometric features and techniques in forensics. The detailed examination starts with one of the most common and familiar biometric features, face, and then examines an emerging biometric feature, ear.

On Forensic Use of Biometrics, with Face and Ear Recognition
This chapter examines the use of biometrics techniques within forensic science. It discusses the historic connections between the subjects and then examines face and ear biometrics in detail. The detailed examination starts from one of the most common and familiar biometric features face and then introduces a new biometric feature ear into forensics. Face is the natural means for human beings t...
متن کاملBiometrics in Forensic Identification: Applications and Challenges
Accurate and efficient identification have become a vital requirement for forensic application due to diversities of criminal activities. A recent advancement in biometric technology which is equipped with computational intelligence techniques is replacing manual identification approaches in forensic science. Biometrics is a fundamental verification mechanism that identifies individuals on the ...
متن کاملBiometrics in Forensic Science: Challenges, Lessons and New Technologies
Biometrics has historically found its natural mate in Forensics. The first applications found in the literature and over cited so many times, are related to biometric measurements for the identification of multiple offenders from some of their biometric and anthropometric characteristics (tenprint cards) and individualization of offender from traces found on crimescenes (e.g. fingermarks, earma...
متن کاملE 3d Ear Biometrics
The human ear is a new class of relatively stable biometrics. After decades of research of anthropometric measurements of ear photographs of thousands of people, it has been found that no two ears are alike, even in the cases of identical and fraternal twins, triplets, and quadruplets [1]. It is also found that the structure of the ear does not change radically over time. Ear biometric has play...
متن کاملOn using gait in forensic biometrics.
Given the continuing advances in gait biometrics, it appears prudent to investigate the translation of these techniques for forensic use. We address the question as to the confidence that might be given between any two such measurements. We use the locations of ankle, knee, and hip to derive a measure of the match between walking subjects in image sequences. The Instantaneous Posture Match algo...
